Candles and scented candles can vary enormously in quality. The range of scented candles is very large. Many people find it difficult to choose which candles to buy.
The burning time of a candle is largely determined by its mixture and the wick. In cheap candles, the mixture consists largely of paraffin. This is obtained from petroleum and lignite tar. Paraffin is therefore a residual product of petroleum refining. It is cheap and therefore extremely popular. Paraffin candles therefore burn out much faster and have a shorter burning time. They release soot and smoke more easily. When paraffin is burned, various bad and toxic substances are released, such as benzene and toluene. The smoke from these candles can cause problems with asthma and allergies. The aromas are also often synthetic and the wick often contains lead, zinc and other synthetic materials.
For your health and the environment it is better to look out for quality candles. These are a little bit more expensive, but you will enjoy them longer and they are better for your health!
The candles from the Belgian brand MENZA are high-quality candles made from pure, high-quality wax and high-quality wicks. They only use 100% perfume for the candles. The combination of the wicks and the wax guarantees an even burn over the entire surface.
5 Tips to enjoy your scented candles even longer
1 Let your candle burn for 2 hours
If you use a new candle for the first time, it is good to let it burn for 2 hours. This way the top layer burns out nicely and no hole is formed into which your wick can sink.
2. Trim the blade
Cut the wick to about 6 to 7mm before lighting your candle. It can just as easily be done with scissors or nail clippers.
By cutting the wick, the flame will burn out very quietly and relaxed. If you leave the wick too long, a much larger and often flickering flame will be created, which will cause the candle to burn much more unevenly.
The more the candle burns, the longer the wick becomes. And a longer wick ensures that your candle burns faster. Cut the wick every time you burn your candle. Cutting the wick not only ensures that your candle burns much more beautifully, but is also much safer.
3. Make sure the wick remains in the center
If you notice the wick drifting to the side, push the wick back to the center after blowing out the candle (while the wax is still wet).
4. Choose a draft-free place
Placing your candle near the air conditioner, window, door or heater is not a good idea. Restless flames are bad for the wick and cause black spots on your candle holder and even on your walls.
5. Keep your candles dust-free
If you see dust on your candle, wipe it off before lighting the wick.
Other advantage of the scented candles, when finished, you will have a beautiful vase or tea light holder. The candle holders of Menza are made of mouth blown glass and will by a nice new accessory in your decoration.
